[BACK TO TOP]	MISSION STATEMENT At Cider House Hostas, our mission is to raise and sell hostas that will help people beautify their environment and have a satisfying gardening experience. We will endeavor to raise and sell only those hostas that we have found to be beautiful, healthy, good growers, one of the best of their type, and that can be reasonably priced. What does Sort-Of-Organic mean?: Plants that we haven't bred ourselves come to us as tiny babies from tissue culture laboratories and wholesalers where I know they were fed and nurtured with chemical fertilizers. Once they get to our place however, we transplant them into real dirt, peat moss and compost mixed with real organic fertilizer. I'm committed to using as much natural material as possible for two reasons: it's good for us, and it's good for the hostas. I believe that the trace elements available in natural fertilizers are essential to grow a strong healthy plant that is better able to withstand the rigors of travel and transplantation. If we were to suffer an invasion of disease or pests that I couldn't fight organically, I would use whatever means I had to, to save our plants. It hasn't happened, and I hope it won't. In any case I will always post here if any of the plants have had to be chemically treated. Shipping: By their nature, Hostas ship very well bare root and it's pretty uneconomical to pay shipping on dirt. Therefore I recommend that you don't ask for container plants. But we aim to please and I will certainly ship them in containers if you prefer. An extra shipping charge applies for the additional weight. Payment and Privacy: Payment may be made by credit card on our secure server, through PayPal, or by printing out this order form or [Download the Word document] and mailing it with a check. We will never sell or share your name, address or phone number. Returns: Hostas mostly start out green. Most will be showing their true colors the first season, but continue to develop their best coloration for years. Because of this, I'm not putting a time limit on returns. I want you to give every one of these babies a chance to shine without risk. If you are unhappy with your hosta, even three years from now, send it back and I will cheerfully refund your money (not including shipping and handling). If you like the hosta, but it's not doing well (which rarely happens) e-mail me first and I'll do my best to help. But again, if you wish, just send it home and I'll refund your money. I'm sorry, I can't guarantee hostas that are grown outside of zones 3-7. I try to maintain a policy that the customer is always right. We all know there are scam artists out there, and to protect myself I have to say that if I have too many disagreements with someone, I reserve the right to refuse to do business with them, without regard to race, creed, color, genetic predispositions, secret fantasies or hair style.
