THE BLUES | THE GREENS | THE GOLDENS | THE VARIEGATED ~ Click on plant photos to see a larger image ~ A beautiful two-toned hosta with superior growth habit and heat resistance. The glossy, puckered green leaf centers are edged with pearl, a perfect backdrop to the intensely fragrant perfume of the deep amethyst flowers. 25"
wide x 16" high. Glossy, medium green centers, thick pearl borders,
fragrant deep violet flowers. I don't think its possible to get more impact in a small space than with this diminutive whiz-bang. Shards of intense white and green in upright arching leaves draw the eye even from the curb. This will add a little excitement and a lot of flair when planted in front of your evergreen shrubs. A vigorous but well-behaved plant, Flash of Light grows rapidly to a tidy 12" x 12" mound. 12"
wide x 12" high, dramatic very white and very dark green striped
leaves.
This marvelous flower deserves a spot somewhere, no matter how ruthless you have to be to get the space. The ivory border and jade eye provide a serene focal point as the lily flowering petals release a fantastical perfume. Plant this in a quiet corner of your yard, maybe around that flat topped stump you've been meaning to have removed, then sit in the middle and just breathe. 24"
wide x 18" high, jade inner leaf with an ivory border, very fragrant
white flowers, very attractive to hummingbirds.
Neither pictures nor words do justice to this multi-award winning hosta. Always on someone's list of best hostas. Always on my garden's best dressed list when others are run ragged. Heat tolerant, pest resistant and fast growing make this one a winner on more than just its good looks. The rich avocado green heart and blue-green border sound like many other hostas, and even the pictures are ho-hum, but in the yard it's the one that people fall in love with. Maybe it's the satin sheen on it's huge leaves, or it's perfectly graceful habit. Maybe it's the subtle but beautiful color pattern. Maybe it's just magic. A must have. 40"
wide by 30" high, tri-color foliage, very large, very fragrant violet
flowers bloom in August.
At the sweet drowsy end of a perfect summer day, the sky is darkening overhead, the grass turns smoky blue and mysterious, and the sunset throws one last lance of gold across the lawn. That's the closest I can come to describing this hosta, too beautiful for words, and as changeable as summer twilight. 30"
wide x 14" high. Tricolored, with pale dusty teal inside of wide
blue green edges, and soft gold centers Streaked and splashed and very
variable, with heart shaped pointed leaves. I'm not a history buff, but I can't help wishing I had the time and knowledge to lay out a famous battle using Loyalist and Minuteman. They are both strong, upright hostas with military bearing, and mirror images of each other. I can imagine the ghosts of soldiers long dead, shaking their heads over the battle lines drawn in flowers, thinking, "At least we are remembered." A gentle memorial, for unknown men who are now the earth that grows the gardens. 24"wide
x 12" high, wide white centers, narrow very dark clean green border,
lavender flowers. The mirror image to Loyalist, a dramatic wide green center with a razor sharp, narrow white border, a great companion planting. Minuteman is a chimeric polyploid, meaning it carries an extra set of chromosomes that give it superior substance and form. Of all the white edged greens available, this is the simply the best. 24"
wide x 12" high, dramatic wide green center with narrow white border,
slightly shiny, excellent substance, striped flower.
Frosty teal inner leaf and and dusty gold outer combine in a ruffled and pointed and flouncy and saucy 2000 American Hosta Growers award winner. Considered to have the best slug resistance, and consistently wins most popular in many polls. Seasonal color changes maintain interest from spring through fall. I think this must be related to Guacamole as it has the same magical ability to draw the eye and rivet one's attention in a garden filled with other plants. 36"
wide x 24" high, semi-upright arching, blue green leaves with a pale
gold ruffle. Fragrant white flowers.
