The curious leaves are heavily cupped, with good substance (that's hosta-speak for a heavy texture). My cats actually drink out of the water bowl formed by the leaves after a rain. Very resistant to slugs, which are the hosta's only known enemy (except careless kittens). 30" wide x 20" high, blue foliage that's heavily cupped and veined, lavender flowers, blooms in July. My almost-favorite big blue ever. Substantial and impressive, more elegant than elegans, more refined than Blue Wedgewood, and topped by pale gossamer wings of flowers that give way to interesting and long lasting seed pods. My favorite blue doesn't exist yet, but will surely be a descendant of Blue Angel. Up to
80" wide x 25" high, very blue, pointed leaves, white flowers,
very neat mound, blooms in July. A lightly fragrant (the ONLY fragrant) blue hosta, with gorgeous flowers held high over deeply ribbed and frosted blue leaves. Of all the blues I've tried, this one holds it's color the best, even in severe heat and sun. It's smaller size encourages perfect manners - something my big blues could learn about pulling in their elbows! - and makes it a perfect choice for the blues lover with a bit of a space problem.
12" wide x 10" high, very long-lasting blue pointed leaves, lightly fragrant flowers that bloom in July. A soft wintermint gown and an elegant upswept do may look like pampered chic, but let no one doubt that this lady rules the garden with satin and steel. Krossa Regal will hold its place against pushy neighbors, even weeds, and still look coolly beautiful. A must have. 36"
wide x 40" high, soft frosty blue green leaves on upright stems.
Old fashioned lavender blooms in July. This is Abiqua Drinking Gourd's younger sister. Smaller, a bit more refined, but with the same distinctive cupping and a deep, intense blue coloration as it matures. Arrange Abiqua Drinking Gourd with Krossa Regal and face it with Love Pat for a stainless sculptural abstract that will complement your modern architecture, and draw raves for creativity. When you get tired of it, dig them up, rearrange, and make a new one. 24" wide x 15" high, deep blue at maturity with numerous large orchid flowers, blooms in early summer.
