I had the honor and privilege of visiting Ms. Mary Chastain, the genius behind Lakeside Hostas, in the spring of 2006. My head whirled as every hosta was more beautiful than the last, but my Jimmy told me very firmly to stick to my plan of buying only hostas that were reasonably priced, vigorous and best of type. There was no doubt in my mind that L. Neat Petite was a keeper. It's just about as perfectly formed as a hosta can be, and small enough to go anywhere. 20"W x 12"H. with loads of orchid flowers. Just to show you that romance never really ends, I had secretly bought a hosta that was NOT reasonably priced because it was Jimmy's favorite. When I snuck back to the car I found that the backseat already contained the expensive 'Lakeside Love Affair' that I had lusted after and reluctantly put down because it didn't fit my budget. So we both went home with the hostas we wanted that we bought for each other. My Jimmy is battling cancer now; I'm so grateful for sweet, golden memories to lighten darker hours.
